How much does it cost to hire celebrities?

Hiring a celebrity for your event is no easy feat, but it's by no means impossible. A quick internet search will show many pictures of Hollywood icons hanging out in private settings with Black Card members.

Whether it's Mary Berry judging a birthday bake-off or a singing lesson from Adele, the celebrity hire industry is undoubtedly booming. And why wouldn't it be?

Hiring a celebrity for your function is the sure-fire way to guarantee your occasion is truly unforgettable. So why doesn't everybody hire celebrities for their event? Undoubtedly, the main reason is the price.

Celebrity hire is geared towards the ultra-high-net-worth community and large corporations looking for the best corporate entertainment options to impress their top clients.

This, however, is not strictly the case in all scenarios. There is a wide variety of celebrities available for hire, all of whom have a price relative to their fame.

For example, for those of you wishing to hire the likes of Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Tiger Woods etc. you will, without doubt, be looking at a seven-figure number but at the other extreme, a meal cooked by your favourite TV chef, or a tennis lesson from a tennis legend is much more attainable.

Cost of hiring a celebrity chef

TV chefs are among the most sought-after performers when it comes to hiring a celebrity for private parties or corporate function. Hiring a celebrity chef can be slightly more relaxed on the wallet than big-name movie stars or chart-topping musicians.

Expect to pay around £20,000 for a private dinner party cooked by a famous chef. Naturally, the better known the celebrity, the bigger the budget you will need.

Why use a booking agency?

When hiring a celebrity, it's essential to use a booking agency. Though it's by no means impossible to engage a star independently, you run the risk of being overcharged and undersold.

Many of the top Hollywood icons will dismiss your enquiry altogether if you don't book through a reputable booking agency such as Black Card Entertainment.

Agencies can bring immense buying power to secure preferential rates with celebrities across the world. The last thing you want when parting with large sums of money is a lousy job, or worse, no job at all.

Recognised agents can offer a fair quote and get the biggest bang for your buck. They can also fully customise an event to meet your every wish and take care of all the logistics.

Celebrity hire price list

Though every celebrity has a specific price based on the event, there is a general rule of thumb to help you decide which celebrity to hire. The top celebrity musicians are the most expensive. They can cost anywhere up to ten million dollars.

There are many articles online about costings of past private bookings for likes of Beyonce, Coldplay, Elton John, Miley Cyrus and Shakira running into multi-millions.

Furthermore, it's impossible to book these celebrities independently. A rough guide on how much it costs to hire your favourite celebrity is as follows:

  • <£25k TV personalities, reality TV stars, sports legends, aspiring singers, instrumental groups.
  • £25k+ Celebrity chefs.
  • £75k – £250k Well known actors, golf stars, top TV personalities.
  • £250k Chart busting pop and rock bands, classical music stars, on-trend Hollywood actors.
  • £500k Most A-list celebrities, top-billing musicians and groups as well as international sports stars.
  • £1 million + The most famous A-list celebrities in every field.

Many Hollywood actors, successful chart artists and high-profile personalities will command fees in the hundreds of thousands. For example, Bob Dylan, Ben Stiller, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are unlikely to appear for anything less than £250,000.

Speakers like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tony Blair command a similar price at around £200,000, and a private jet also must be provided.

The £100,000 to £150,000 bracket includes high profile celebrity chefs, politicians and successful actors. This bracket consists of the likes of politician Al Gore and TV chefs Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.

Your X Factor hopefuls, Love Island winners, TV comedians, celebrity impersonators and one-hit wonders will cost considerably less. Celebrities for hire in this price bracket are incredibly popular for companies looking for a keynote speaker for a corporate event. The likes of comedian Hugh Dennis (£7,500), actor Brian Blessed (£6,500) and TV presenter Christopher Biggins (£5,000) are such examples.

The most expensive celebrity to hire

To book top-flight A-List celebrity to appear at your wedding, birthday party you will need very deep pockets indeed.

Official figures are hard to come by, and agencies can be duty-bound not to reveal what fees the most prominent names can command.

Prices can also depend on the nature of the event, where it is held, when the artist is expected to perform and myriad other variables. Food, dressing rooms, security, accommodation, travel expenses, and so on may be required not only for the performers but for their entourage as well.

If you plan to invite a top-name celebrity to your party, then you had better call in specialists to negotiate a deal. You can also expect to sign a non-disclosure agreement on the sums involved.

Some international top name stars will expect a million-pound payout before even stepping on a private plane to jet to get to the party. Some top-flight artists will charge double that just to sing a couple of songs.

Top-flight rappers are an excellent draw for parties, but the most expensive was repeatedly paid more than £3 million to perform at a festival. A top diva is said to have been paid over £1 million a song when she showed up at a Russian oligarch's wedding.

Bands have more than one member, and all will need payment. Legendary bands can demand more than £4 million for a gig these days. One one of the world's most famous bands was reportedly paid an unbelievable £6 million to perform a single song.
